For the last 11 years I have been a substitute teacher, teaching assistant and coach in four districts. Though I am not a certified teacher I have had several long-term sub positions in Algebra, Phys Ed and Earth Science. ...Looking back at that year I see that I was really enthusiastic and well intentioned, but I was unprepared to really help the children learn anything being taught in the class. Today I know that helping students learn requires knowledge of the subject matter. But, it also requires knowledge of yourself and a true heart for the student's progress and success. (read more)
