I have a degree from the University of Michigan in evolutionary anthropology. I am currently in the process of applying to PhD programs in Forensic Anthropology and Bioarchaeology. For the last 11 years I have been a substitute teacher, teaching assistant and coach in four districts. Though I am not a certified teacher I have had several long-term sub positions in Algebra, Phys Ed and Earth Science. My first experience in education was in high school when I volunteered two days a week at a local elementary school. Looking back at that year I see that I was really enthusiastic and well intentioned, but I was unprepared to really help the children learn anything being taught in the class. Today I know that helping students learn requires knowledge of the subject matter. (read more)
