Sometimes, an exponential function will have a messy expression for the power, which will generate a different shape of graph. However, usually you'll get the more-standard form, with a greater-than-one base, perhaps multiplied by some constant, and a linear exponent.
In the graphs below, note that they all look roughly the same; they may have been moved up or down, flipped upside-down, shifted left or right, etc, etc, but they all have the same shape:

Make sure you can recognize this form, in case you're presented with a graph — of unspecified type — and you're needing to do something with it. All of the above are the same graph, just translated (that is, moved around) a bit.
