...I believe that all understanding of great reading comes from making empathetic connections to the subject matter. Effective writing also depends centrally on developing a personal viewpoint which the writer is actively involved in conveying to his/her reader. My tenth grade classes had to be grounded in state testing preparation, where I never once have had a student fail and always had at least two students achieve perfect scores.
