...My favorite thing about teaching and tutoring is when students have their "Ah-ha!" moment. I also like to present material in different ways that will make sense to that particular student. ...I encourage each student to take responsibility for his/her learning and help me determine areas in which I can help. I try to break down a problem to make it easier to understand while asking for my student’s input in the solution. I want a student to tell me how to solve a problem rather than me tell the student. ...I have worked with struggling readers individually as well as in small groups to get them on grade level and even above grade level. I also worked with advanced readers to push them to be more knowledgeable and read at frustrating levels. As a homeschooling mother, I have also taught my own son to read, and he reads on a 1st/2nd grade level for a Pre-Kindergartener. (read more)

...I engaged in mathematics proofs, and studied logic independently for philosophy, this included taking a couple courses in logic itself, e.g, Symbolic Logic. I was a teacher's assistant for a semester of finite math at my University. I held independent sessions 2 days a week, in place of their normal class meeting, to reinforce material in creative and engaging ways. (read more)
