...My suggestion is that the different formulas and concepts should be considered tools to use. A carpenter has many tools, and learns to use them effectively to complete the task at hand. The formulas and concepts of Math and Engineering are likewise tools to use to complete the task at hand. (read more)
...While memorization can help in the short term, I believe lasting results and confidence come from understanding the fundamentals and really getting what you are doing. Many students come to me having survived through cramming, and while that can work, as the material advances it helps to know how to reason in a subject. I try to balance immediate help with refreshing one's background. (read more)
