Whenever the student came across a specific topic they were struggling with we would schedule a one-on-one meeting where I would use various examples to clarify any of the student’s confusions and deepen their understanding of the topic. ...It gives you the opportunity to make mistakes without them affecting your grades. I've had a professor say "fail early, and fail often," because you can learn from those mistakes to cement in concepts or strategies from any subject.
