Utilizing the dictionary is an important skill to learn, when the task envelops the learners' abilities and needs. I also use audio tapes from the library for ELL/ESOL, and flash cards. (read more)
...The challenges are different for students (Pre K - 2nd) than they are for students 3rd grade and above. Even for the younger children, it varies from child to child. To effectively help a child overcome this hurdle, it is important to understand the child's unique personality and use it as a frame to develop an individualized plan that will lead to academic success. ...I enjoy watching the "Aha" moment when a student understands the concept and can make it apply to the current topic. While technology is everywhere, many times we return to the old school of paper and pencil to understand the basics.
